13. Return Delivery II

Sue Heydon, Nelson Whakatū

Step into Nelson’s 19th century Trout Hatchery to see wondrous creatures floating from the ceiling. Who is watching who? The glowing lanterns are actually showing the development of trout ova into juvenile fish.

Sue’s work looks at the acclimatisation of flora and fauna into New Zealand by the early English Settlers.

The work is an extension of Return Delivery, which was in the old Fire Engine House at Te Ramaroa 2021, looking at the introduction of bird species.

The Trout Hatchery in Albion Square has a really interesting history - read about it on the Department of Conversation's website. There's also a longer article from The Prow here.

The Trout Hatchery is full of history (and more than a few stories of the one that got away!).
